9:25PM - War Bride Part 2
Again, I'm missing the last couple of paragraphs, so if anyone has a copy, I would dearly appreciate it. In this version, the replacement paragraphs are in brackets and should be understood as a temporary ending that will hopefully be replaced with a more complete ending, soon.

weird9:12PM - War Bride Chapter I
When I set out to post this fic, I made the horrifying discovery that all the versions I had were missing the last few paragraphs of the second chapter. ALL my copies and my back up copies. I have no idea how that happened. So, if anyone has a copy of the second chapter of the fic as is was posted to CG, please let me know. I'm going to post the second chapter with a temporary ending, but I'd really like to have the correct one. Any help would be appreciated.
Meanwhile...

This is a temporary measure while Coloured Grey is down. Or, that's the intent. We'll see how it goes. But, increasingly, people have been asking if my DM/HG fics are archived anywhere else, so I decided to post them here, where they will be accessible. First up, what appears to be my most popular fic, Tender Vengeance The first chapter appears below. I was hoping to post several at once, but I went over the posting limits.
Please be aware that these posts are rough copies from working drafts of the fics, in some cases, drafts that were recovered after a crash. There may well be typos and misspellings, as well as some slight textual differences between what's here and what was at CG. Don’t bother to point them out. If I get the time (and, time is something that is in vanishingly short supply for me right now) I will go through and try to polish things up. No promises how soon that will be. I'm thinking weeks. By which time, I can only hope CG will have returned.
Also, be aware that all the A.N.s appearing below were written for the original posts at CG and are notcurrent when they speak of future updates.
At all odds, enjoy.

9:06PM - Checking in
Dear IJ: November 2007 to March 2009 is not "more than two years." It is just 16 months, or, one and one-third years.
But, thanks for the reminder, as I may want to start archiving fic here.

5:05PM - Tosca
Don't expect this to be coherent. I had to put Tosca to sleep today. She would have been 17 or 18--I've lost track--on October 31.

8:48PM - Weensy Excerpts
I just KNOW I’m going to regret this....
gakked from Ducks, aka
theantijoss
When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.
The sad thing? The six BtVS/Ats fics and the nine HP fics behind the cut are not the only fanfic WIPS I have going on, just the ones I can access from this computer, and which I am reasonably certain will be finished and posted within the next two years.
Altogether, I have about thirty-five or forty fanfics well begun, most in the Buffyverse. Let’s not even talk about the plot bunnies I’m deliberately ignoring. Plus my original novels and short stories. And you wonder why I don’t have any free time...or a life...
I should note for the fans of my Buffyverse work, who are probably feeling a bit neglected as I haven’t posted anything new for them in over a year, that my BtVS/Ats WIPS are, by and large, much longer and more complex than all but one or two of my Harry Potter fics.
Enough about that. On to the fics. Adult content. Click if you dare. ( Read more... )
So, that’s it. A bunch of more or less weensy excerpts from some of the WIPs I’ve got going on. I hope you enjoyed, but please don’t expect them all to be posted right away. It’s going to take time to polish most of these babies into postable shape.
Now that I’ve shown you mine, will you show me yours?

11:55PM - Short, sweet, movie madness
So, yesterday the spouse and child and I spent the day at the movies, taking in Ratatouille stopping for lunch, then seeing Stardust. My comments below contain no real spoilers, though they do contain a couple of references.
About the first, I shall only say, Steamed Rats, OMG fucking hilarious. We very much liked the film.
About the second...if you have enough in common with me to be on my flist, it is highly likely that you don't want to miss this one on the big screen. Just a perfect jem of a fantasy/romance/adventure/comedy/drama kind of thing. The climactic sword battle between the hero and the villain...brilliant both for its choreography and for the acting on the part of the villain. You'll see what I mean when you watch it. The writing is very smart, completely cohesive logic on the one hand, and still some interesting twists that you might not see coming until they are upon you.
Now, I have been a Claire Danes fan since at least My So Called Life and she was absolutely perfect as Yvaine.
But.
For the sake of her career, I wish Sarah Michelle Gellar hadn't turned the role down. It's not that I think she would have done a better job than Danes, or that Danes did a better job than SMG could have done. Both actresses are extraordinary, and though SMG's portrayal of Yvaine would have been different, I'm sure it would have been every bit as compelling. It's just that I think this film is going to do well, and I think it would have brought SMG the kind of attention her career seems to need. It's a different role from what she's done in the Grudge films, or the scream films or Scooby films, and it is different, as well, from Buffy. It would have showcased both her dramatic and her comic talents, and...well. I just wish she'd been able to take the role, even though I adored Danes in it.
That is all.

11:19PM - Minor Yayness
For those of you who knew about this issue, you will be pleased to learn that I got my two extra weeks of vacation, and am not now going to turn in my resignation, take a huge pay-cut, and opt for early retirement in two years. With four weeks of vacation, plus a week for spring break, a week for Christmas and 15 Fridays off in the summer when we work four nine hour days instead of five 7.5 hour days, I can see my way clear to working the four extra years that will take me to slightly early retirement at age 60. Which I will achieve in five years, seven months, twenty-five days and two minutes. Not that I'm counting, or anything. *G*
Was gonna rant more about The Journal Provider That Shall Not Be Named, asshattery, and some lyrics to Paradise By The Dashboard Light from Meatloaf's legendary rock album, Bat Out of Hell along with a whole lot of stuff about my published work and the current paranoia in publishing that requires authors to ignore accuracy in dealing with historical romance ...but I'm too tired. Maybe over the weekend...
